tay at home dad Fergus, still struggling to get to grips with his family's new life in Stockholm after more than a decade as a Glasgow lawyer, initially dismisses his toddler Alfie’s baby-talk as nothing. His wife, Tess, stepping into her dream role as CEO of a hot new startup, has enough on her plate to pay much attention to what’s going on at home. Fergus discovers that the previous year, a little boy of around Alfie’s age disappeared from the apartment they are living in. The mother is currently being held in a psychiatric hospital; found guilty of her son’s murder by the ‘court of public opinion’ – she has never actually been charged by the police. As Alfie’s behaviour spirals out of control, Fergus’s investigation leads him deep into a labyrinth of secrets, lies, and people forgotten or rejected by those around them.
