Brooklyn's Plymouth Church in the Civil War Era: A Ministry of Freedom

But across the East River in Brooklyn stood a bastion of antislavery sentiment--Plymouth Church--led by Henry Ward Beecher. He guided his congregants in a crusade against the institution.
