Kalaivanar NS Krishnan

Nagercoil Sudalaimuthu Krishnan, popularly known as Kalaivanar and also as NSK, was an Indian actor-comedian, theatre artist, playback singer and writer in the early stages of the Tamil film industry – in the 1940s and 1950s. He is considered as the "Charlie Chaplin of India." Born in Ozhuginachery, Nagercoil, in the princely state of Travancore, India on 29 November 1908, his stage and cine-screen comedy performances were unique and always carried a message for the people. N. S. Krishnan started his career as a Villu Paatu artist (the Tamil way of reciting stories while singing songs and playing a musical instrument in the form of a bow called "Villu"), He later became involved in Tamil drama and stage shows, as were many film artistes. At one time, he owned a touring drama company. When cinema gradually became popular in South India, he entered the Tamil film world to become one of the most leading Tamil comedians ever, with a unique style. He generally wrote his own comedy dialogues and expressed them in his drama and films so that the message came across, but the subject was not offended. He acted in nearly 150 Tamil films and the matinee-duo of N. S. Krishnan and T. A. Madhuram (later his wife) was very popular in his day; he also did roles along with leading stage and cine artists such as T. S. Durairaj, "Pulimootai" Ramasamy, C.S. Pandian and writers such as Udumalai Narayana Kavi and Subbu Armugham and gave a number of hits. He was a talented singer and his hits include "Sivakavi", "Raja Rani", and "Manamagal". "Kalaivanar" N. S. Krishnan died at the age of 48, on 30 August 1957.

கலைவாணர் என். எஸ். கிருஷ்ணன் என அழைக்கப்படும் நாகர்கோயில் சுடலைமுத்துப்பிள்ளை கிருஷ்ணன் தமிழ்த் திரைப்பட நகைச்சுவை நடிகரும் பாடகரும் ஆவார். நாகர்கோவில் அருகே ஒழுகினசேரியில் 1908 நவம்பர் 29 இல் சுடலைமுத்துப்பிள்ளை, இசக்கி அம்மாள் தம்பதியருக்கு மகனாக பிறந்தார். இவர் தந்தை அப்போதைய ஆங்கிலேயர்கள் ஆட்சியில் நடத்தி வந்த தபால் அலுவலகத்தில் தபால்களை கொண்டு செல்லும் வாகன ஓட்டுநராகப் பணிபுரிந்து வந்தார். இவர் தாயார் இசக்கி அம்மாள் கணவரின் வருமானம் குறைவென்பதால் அவர் குடும்ப வறுமையை சமாளிக்க தனது வீட்டிலே சிற்றுண்டி செய்து விற்று வந்தார். இந்த வறுமையான குடும்பத்தில் கிருஷ்ணன் பிறந்தாலும் தனது ஆசையான நடிப்பில் கால்பதிக்க அவர் முதலில் நாடகக் கொட்டகைகளில் சோடா விற்கும் ஏழை சிறுவனாக தனது திரை வாழ்க்கையை இளமைப் பருவத்திலே தொடங்கினார். பின் சாதாரண வில்லுப்பாட்டுக் கலைஞராக தனது கலையுலக வாழ்வை துவங்கினார். பின்னர் நாடக துறையில் நுழைந்தார். சொந்தமாக நாடகக் கம்பெனியையும் நடத்தினார். அப்போது தமிழகத்தில் திரைப்படத்துறை பிரபலமடைந்தது. அதிலும் நுழைந்து தமிழ் திரைப்படத்துறையில் முன்னணி நகைச்சுவை நடிகராக வலம் வந்தார். திரைப்படத் துறையில் இவர் அறிமுகமான திரைப்படம் 1936களில் வெளிவந்த சதிலீலாவதி ஆகும். பெரும்பாலும் சொந்தமாக நகைச்சுவை வசனங்களை எழுதி அதையே நாடகத்திலும், திரைப்படங்களிலும் பயன்படுத்துவதை வழக்கமாகக் கொண்டிருந்தார். நகைச்சுவை மூலமாக கருத்துகளை பரப்பினார். ஏறத்தாழ 150 படங்களில் நடித்தார். இவரது மனைவி மதுரமும் பிரபலமான நடிகை என்பதால் இருவரும் இணைந்தே பல படங்களில் நடித்தனர். நகைச்சுவையை சினிமா காட்சிகளாக மட்டுமின்றி பாடல்களாகவும் அமைக்க முடியும் என நிரூபித்தவர். சொந்த குரலில் பல பாடல்களை பாடியுள்ளார். பழங்கலைகளின் பண்பு கெடாமல் அவற்றைப் புதுமைப்படுத்தி மக்கள் மன்றத்திற்குத் தந்தவர். அவர் நடத்திய கிந்தனார் கதாகாலட்சேபமும், தெருக்கூத்து, வில்லுப்பாட்டு போன்றவைகளும் இதற்குச் சான்று. அறிவியல் கருத்துக்கள் நாட்டில் பரவ வேண்டும் என்பதில் ஆர்வம் கொண்டவர். ஏறத்தாழ 150 படங்களுக்கு மேல் நடித்துள்ள அவர் சீர்திருத்தக் கருத்துக்களை திரைப்படங்களில் துணிவோடு எடுத்துக் கூறியவர். கலையுலகில் கருத்துக்களை வழங்கியது போல் தமது வாழ்க்கையிலும் ஆயிரக்கணக்கானவர்களுக்கு பணத்தை வாரி வழங்கியவர். இத்தகைய சிறப்புமிக்க என். எஸ். கிருஷ்ணன் பற்றி பேராசிரியர் முனைவர் கு.ஞானசம்பந்தன் விரிவாக விவரிக்கிறார் கேட்டு மகிழுங்கள்.
