The second edition corrected many grammatical errors and changed some of the references of smoking to nicotine. The third edition includes the preface, A New Freedom—Rodger’s Story. The fourth edition includes a revised questionnaire section that combines and reorganizes the responses, an extended explanation of the Twelve Traditions and our newly adopted 7th Step prayer. The fifth edition includes some revisions to the text.”

It describes our common and individual experiences, before and after attaining abstinence from nicotine, and is written in quasi-biographical form. Part II—Questionnaire & “Quotable Quotes” contains a summary of individual and “notable” quotes from the responses to the questionnaire. Part III—“ Twelve Steps” describes our program of recovery from nicotine addiction, how we maintain our freedom from this powerful drug and how we live more useful and happy lives.
