Arthur Conan Doyle

"The Adventure of the Gloria Scott" is one of the 56 Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, collected in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. It was first published in The Strand Magazine and Harper's Weekly in April 1893.

Chronologically the earliest case in the Holmes canon, it's mainly narrated by Holmes himself. The story involves Holmes's university friend Victor Trevor and his father, a wealthy landowner who made his fortune in Australia. Holmes uncovers a dark secret from the elder Trevor's past involving someone with the initials "J. A.," revealing a hidden crime that still haunts him.
