#1 For years, doctors and the government have told us that consuming salt increases blood pressure, and that high blood pressure is a precursor to many cardiovascular diseases. But this is not the full story.

#2 The low-salt guidelines were based on a small sample of people and their benefits from low-salt eating, without ever considering the risks. Many other health risks are caused by low salt intake, such as increased heart rate, compromised kidney function, and adrenal insufficiency.

#3 The health risks of salt restriction are clear, and the benefits of salt restriction are minimal at best.
