Dreams

Originally published in 1886 as part of his breakout collection Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow, Dreams begins as a wonderfully whimsical, sharp-witted exploration of the human subconscious. With his signature conversational irony, Jerome K. Jerome acts as a guide through the nighttime fantasies and absurd logic leaps that plague the sleeping mind.

Jerome hilariously breaks down universal experiences, from the bizarre freedom of dreaming you can fly, to the terrifying, nonsensical panic of dreaming you are about to be hanged for a murder you didn't commit, all while your dream-self mildly wonders why the police haven't stepped in to stop it.

Dreams is an absolute must-read. It is a cozy, thought-provoking, and deeply funny time capsule that celebrates the beautiful, messy imperfections of human freedom over the sterile prison of forced perfection.
