Smoke Screen: A Novel

New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown returns with a sizzling tale of corruption and betrayal, revenge, and reversal—where friends become foes, and criminals become heroes in the ultimate abuse of power.

Five years ago a disastrous fire broke out in police headquarters. Four police officers saved countless lives that night—or did they? Seven men perished in the inferno, and one of the bodies showed signs of a violent assault. But the investigation was hushed quickly. Raley Gannon is a local firefighter determined to get to the truth of the night that made his best friend Jay Burgess a hero. But a scandal makes Raley persona non grata at the department. His only ally in his quest for the truth is beautiful local news anchor, Britt Shelley. Britt thinks she is getting a scoop from Jay one night, only to wake up in bed the next morning with Jay’s dead body—and no memory of the night before. To find the truth about the fire and themselves, Raley and Britt must dig deeply into the past. But when word of their investigation gets out, their reputations, and their lives, are on the line.
