ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK

The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin tells the story of New York City as a living entity, with avatars representing its five boroughs. When a mysterious, ancient enemy begins to attack the city, the avatars, who are all strangers, must come together to defend it. Each avatar embodies the unique spirit of their respective borough and the city's power. They learn about the nature of cities, the enemy, and their own connection to it. The group discovers a primary avatar who is sleeping and vulnerable and must work together to protect him. The novel explores themes of community, identity, and the power of collective action against a destructive force that aims to rewrite reality itself. The avatars must overcome their personal differences to protect the city and each other.
