This poem describes the conflict between two powers of nature represented by the Asar, the creative Gods, and the Jetter, the destructive giants. The main character, Thor, goes on various adventures to punish the giants for their arrogance and revenge himself on them. Along the way, multiple subplots include Loki's attempt to cut off Sif's hair, his adventure with Odin and Hœnir, and his role in Thor's journey to Utgard to retrieve the true hammer Miölner.
