Die Publikation zeigt die Arbeit In Leder der Künstlerin Käthe Kruse. In Leder besteht aus 20 mit Leder bezogenen Instrumenten. Ausgangspunkt war das Schlagzeug, das Käthe Kruse in den 1980er Jahren in der ikonischen Band Die Tödliche Doris spielte und das sie als erstes der Instrumente in einem Akt der Transformation und Neu­definition „einlederte“. Es folgten Gitarre, Bass, Geige, Klarinette, Blockflöte, Rasseln, Akkordeon, Zimbeln, Wasserkessel, Glocken­spiel und Klangstäbe, die nun mit Leder überzogen zu eigenständigen Objekten wurden. Im E-Book können die neuen Klänge gehört und die Instrumente gespielt werden.

Die eingelederten Instrumente werden weiterhin in performativen Aufführungen gespielt. In der Performance Lieder in Leder* singt Kruse Lieder aus Chöre & Soli, halb verborgen in einer Säule aus Leder. Sie wird von ihrer Tochter Edda Kruse Rosset auf dem lederbezogenen Schlagzeug begleitet. Im Konzert in Leder werden alle Instrumente zum Einsatz gebracht und Kruse schlägt die mit Texten der Lieder bedruckten Bleche, die einen scheppernden Gegenklang zu den vom Leder gedämpften Instrumenten erzeugen. Sophia Bicking, Danielle de Picciotto, Alexander Hacke, Edda Kruse Rosset und Alma Neumann begleiteten Kruse bei dem einmaligen Konzert am 10. April 2025 in der Berlinischen Galerie. Die Perfomances Lieder in Leder und Konzert in Leder sind im E-Book als Videos enthalten.

*Lieder in Leder basieren auf den kurzen Acappella-Songs aus der Box Chöre & Soli von Die Tödliche Doris, die 1984 von Gelbe Musik, Berlin, und Pure Freude, Düsseldorf, herausgegeben wurde.
