Creating machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms for chatbots and robots is no laughing matter. Or is it?

Our guests, Sarah Rose Siskind and Carolyn Ayers, think that laughter is a critical element in making machine-based systems function and act more like humans. What does that actually mean, though? That's what we want to find out in today's conversation.

Sarah and Carolyn help make robots and chatbots less boring! Yes, that’s a real job; their real job. In fact, global organizations like Honda Research Institute of Japan rely on Sarah and Carolyn to inject personality into their robotic companion characters. They helped Honda win awards in social robotics. In another example, Hanson Robotics relied on Sarah and Carolyn to create Sophia, the Robot with the right blend of charisma, personality and technical detail. They also helped create a character for Volkswagen who lived in the dashboard.

There's a ton Sarah and Carolyn have done, including developing the personality for neural network and AI-based, open-ended chatbots who have chatted with celebrities such as Mark Cuban, Ron Howard, Jimmy Fallon, and Neil DeGrasse Tyson, just to name a few!

Join us, our guests, and perhaps a bot, for this engaging, we-think-is-funny, conversation.
