Wizard and the Bruiser

We conclude spooky season (To be fair it's been a pretty damn spooky year) with a history of haunted house attractions. Holden takes us all the way back to when haunts started with Ancient Greece and through some Dark Ages, some not so Dark Ages, and the Great Depression when creepily yelling at people for fun started becoming the art form it is today! Then Jake talks about theme park horror attractions like Halloween Horror Nights and Knotts Scary farm. And finally Mike takes us home talking about the lunatic fringes (emphasis on the lunatics) that have tried to take haunted houses to the extreme and what happens when an art form loses its art and just turns into a guy named Russ torturing people. It's always a guy named Russ, isn't it?

We're doing a good ol' fashioned deep dive on the man from the Great White North who made Hollywood his second city and blew up the box office! We go through Rick's early life, his meteoric rise and his powerful decision to walk away from it all, proving he was the goodhearted nerd we always cheered for. If it ever comes out that he's actually a terrible person we will have to immediately take this episode down because we shower him with praise as both a performer and a man. But I don't think he will, because he's Rick Moranis, the littlest giant of the silver screen.

Young George RR Martin is the ultimate fanboy, transforms into the ultimate journeyman writer, and then after years of toiling in writers rooms and the clearance section of Waldenbooks creates a beloved book series! And with that series comes a fan base that is first Stark loving glad and eventually becomes Stark raving mad. Was that a lame sentence? Yes, but we met our deadline and published it anyway unlike some people!! Is it okay that the guy is too busy enjoying life and Elden Ring to return to Westeros or is he guilty of being like every dad in a 90s kid movie and making a promise he refuses to keep?

There's no "I" in Esports! That's a factual statement. This episode is crammed full of factual statements as Holden takes us on a tour from the very beginning of Esports in 1962 all the way up til now where there are full leagues of people (some legends, some not) playing for millions (both audience and dollars)! We go through it all from Billy Mitchell in his prime to EV0 moment 37 to The Overwatch League. Be dazzled by Holden's research, Jake's insightful commentary, and Mike's complete lack of knowledge about video game acronyms. But hey, he did compete in the 1994 Blockbuster Video Game Championships and vividly remembers being humbled, so there's that.
