ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK

"Number the Stars" by Lois Lowry tells the story of ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen living in Copenhagen during the Nazi occupation of Denmark in 1943. The narrative follows Annemarie's journey as she and her family become involved in the Danish resistance to help their Jewish friends and neighbors, including her best friend Ellen, escape to Sweden. The story reveals the dangers faced by ordinary people during this time, and emphasizes the courage, friendship, and the importance of standing up against injustice. The reader is shown how the Danish people risk everything to help those in need, using secret codes, deceptive plans, and their own ingenuity.
