"Ajax by Sophocles is a powerful tragedy that explores honor, pride, and the devastating consequences of wounded reputation. Set during the Trojan War, the play begins after the death of Achilles, whose armor is awarded not to Ajax, the mighty warrior who expected it, but to Odysseus. His wife Tecmessa and the chorus plead with him to reconsider, but Ajax remains steadfast in his belief that death is the only way to preserve his dignity. After his suicide, conflict arises among the Greek leaders over whether he deserves a proper burial. Ultimately, even Odysseus argues for compassion.
