1. BLOOD TRAILS IN THE SAHARA - SAHARA DESERT SERIES

A Bormoen Arab dispatches a message to Colonel Ribrun of Fort Dini Sadazi. Therein, he requests that another of the French forts, named Fort Ney, be evacuated forthwith.

Colonel Ribrun detaches some of his men to reinforce Fort Ney against a potential assault. Just as the reinforcement patrol reaches the fort, they are assailed in the desert by thousands of Bormoen horsemen. Their comrades-in-arms in the French fort are concurrently attacked and all are massacred. Only thirty of the original 120 men dispatched to reinforce Fort Ney survive. They are captured and conveyed to the Bormoen city, there to be tortured and murdered. Joos is one of the men who survived the onslaught, and he has an axe to grind with the Bormoen leader, for he had Joos’s brother, who performed missionary work there years ago, put to death.

In the city of the Bormoen leader, Joos and two of his companions receive aid from an unexpected quarter and miraculously succeed in escaping the city. Before their escape, however, they manage to eliminate a significant peril, but they also learn of an even greater danger that lies ahead. Their elation, however, is short-lived, for the Bormoen Arabs pursue them relentlessly through the desert. Through cunning stratagems, Joos and his two fellow soldiers manage to evade the Bormoen. Just when salvation seems within their grasp, they are recaptured, and this time, it appears the end has definitively arrived for them. The Bormoen, however, had not reckoned with Joos’s ingenious mind, and surrounded by thousands of Arabs in the heart of the desert, the three men accomplish something incredible that could well mean the difference between life and death.
