Brushes and Beats

In Brushes and Beats, twelve-year-old Maren Quill uncovers a magical set of sable brushes in her family’s music store. Each brushstroke she paints summons rhythms from the adjacent drum kit. When she and shy beatboxer friend Kaleb Torr experiment with flat, round, filbert, and fan brushes, they discover how visual art and percussion can dance together. Their community-center workshops spark creativity in classmates as they map colors to tempo and texture. This vibrant, comical adventure crescendos in a live “Brushes and Beats” performance—a multisensory mural-and-beats show that celebrates the harmony between paint, rhythm, and friendship.
