The Fixed Period

"The Fixed Period" by Anthony Trollope presents a provocative dystopian vision set in the fictional republic of Britannula. This novel explores the mandatory euthanasia of all citizens at the age of 67, a law devised to maintain societal efficiency. The narrative follows the moral and ethical dilemmas faced by the president of Britannula as he grapples with enforcing this controversial "Fixed Period." Trollope's work uniquely combines elements of science fiction with political satire, questioning the limits of government control and the value of human life.
