Returning from a business trip, the NARRATOR finds himself in an ancient city. He doesn’t plan to stay, but a commotion near his hotel gets him interested. The reason is MIR, stands upon a platform warning his city folk of the punishment to come. He calls them to a hill after the evening prayer. The Narrator decides to go, finding a large crowd.

On the first night, Mir describes God and His attributes, the creation of the Heaven and the Earth and Adam and Eve, supplementing each fact with a Quranic verse. He recites every verse from the Quran regarding monotheism and creation. The Narrator is deeply engaged and turns up on the second night, eager to learn more.

On the second night, Mir takes them through the stories of Prophets Noah, Hūd, Ṣāliḥ, and Abraham. He speaks of their trials and missions. He also talks about Dhul-Qarnayn and his encounter with the evil Gog and Magog, as well as the story of the Companions of the Cave and the journey of Moses with Khidr.

The gathering continues on the third night, where Mir recounts the stories of Prophets Lūṭ, Jacob, Joseph, Jethro, Moses, and Aaron. Among the many lessons, he highlights the patience of Prophets Joseph and Jacob and how each of these prophets steadfastly called their people to the Oneness of Allah.

The fourth night brings more people as Mir delves into the life stories of Prophets Jonah, Job, David, Solomon, Zechariah, John, Mary, and Isa, son of Mary. He explains the wisdom behind the vast kingdom of Prophet David and Solomon and how they remained grateful servants of Allah despite their countless blessings.

On nights five and six, Mir details the revelation of the Quran and the rise of Islam, from the first revelations to the Migration and eventually the return to and conquest of Mecca. The crowd sits captivated by the account of heroic wars and miracles. He describes how idol worship, corruption, immorality, and superstitions were common at the time before Allah sent the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Quran as clear guidance. Mir recites all verses from the Quran related to the Prophet and his family on night seven and concludes with the verses that affirm the divine authenticity of the Quran.

Mir dedicates nights eight and nine to the faithful believers who will be rewarded with the gardens of Paradise, giving hope and glad tidings to believers. He continues enlightening them on the tenth night by reciting all the verses from the Quran that touch upon Islamic Jurisprudence and faith.

On night eleven, Mir tries to warn his people about shirk. He is now joined by an enormous crowd and is used to the tactics of the political and religious elite trying to stop his efforts to protect their power. He describes the idolaters and the infidels, and answers them with verses from the Quran.

Night twelve is the final night when Mir fulfills his mission after describing the events leading to and on the Judgement Day. He talks in detail about the Heaven and the Hell, giving a final warning to save his people.

The Narrator waits for Mir the next day and many days after that, looking for him all over the city. But when he is not found, the Narrator heads home, recalling the six days he spent with Mir exclusively. He remembers the debates, and adventures that created a bond between them and revealed to him the root cause of the corruption of the town.

Mir’s remains missing, but the city that once thrived, albeit decaying from within, is destroyed in a catastrophe. Only those who believed and remained steadfast in faith survived.
