'Fantasy as it ought to be written' George R.R. Martin
Robin Hobb returns to her best loved characters with the second volume in a brand new series.
Happy endings never last…
Years ago, they freed a dragon from the glaciers on Aslevjal. Then they parted ways, the Fool returning to far-off Clerres, while Fitz finally claimed a wife, a family, and a home of his own.
Now, betrayed by his own people and broken by torment, the Fool has made his way back to the Six Duchies. But as Fitz attempts to heal his old friend in Buckkeep Castle, his young daughter Bee is abducted from Withywoods by pale and mysterious raiders who leave ruin and confusion in their wake.
Fitz must find a way to rescue his beloved Bee. At the same time it is the Fool’s fiercest wish to return to Clerres with the best assassin he has ever known, to gain vengeance and justice. Can Fitz bear to take up the tools of his old trade again, even to avenge his dearest friend and save his child?

Simply amazing. Every time one of these books end, I feel like I’ve lost contact with people close to me. I think that is a trait of any wel written or told story and very few stories can rival the tales of Fitz Chivalry in that regard.

Character development is apparently not too important for Robin Hobb. The characters still act in much the same way they did in earlier installments. On top of that it repeatedly borders on the annoying how slow characters are to catch on to what is happening. Fitz in particular, is supposedly this highly competent and important person within the Six Dutchies. And let's not forget he was once trained to be a spie and an assassin. Yet he repeatedly fails to connect one event to the other, until the plot has been dragged out sufficiently. No matter how clearly they are connected. I only made it through this book hoping things will finally kick off in the next book.

The first half of the book is so slow and it seems somehow Fitz/Tom has forgotten everything he prides himself in knowing. The Fool is so annoying I wanted to throw down the book but it's on my phone so it's not the same. It's 8 books into a 9 book arc so I had to finish. I hope that's not what the author was counting on.
