Het hele boek lang dacht ik: gaat dit nog ergens heen? Ik bleef redelijk geïnteresseerd, maar uiteindelijk viel het tegen. Andere boeken van deze schrijfster vond ik een stuk beter.

for some reason i found it predictable maybe because it was overly construed, others would disagree i guess, but it did paint a vivid picture through isabel of the horrid attitudes to women in the 1950's

Beautiful. It's actually about the route of women to independence. The right to work after their marriage and to do so without their husbands deciding it for them. A hard way of a very young woman trapped into a marriage and family too early.
