The Big Four

“If one man does not make a move, the other must, and by permitting the adversary to make the attack, one learns something about him.” — Hercule Poirot

The number 4

Scribbled, over and over again. There were tens, maybe even hundreds… all 4’s.

A sheet of paper, almost drenched in ink, with only the number 4 written on it — What could it mean?

Hercule Poirot was a detective who was good at his job. He was a skilled detective who had come to lament that all his cases thus far were, quite frankly, tame and boring.

He wanted an adventure. A thrilling case where he would have no other choice but to risk everything to solve it.

And that’s exactly what he’s about to get.

Poirot finds himself an uninvited guest, standing at his doorway and absolutely caked in dust. All Poirot could do was exchanged an alarmed look with the mystery man, before the guest collapses on the floor.

The only clue was that all the man would utter were Poirot’s name and address, before hastily scribbling out the number 4, again, and again, and again.
