‘A striking adventure story that could hold a galaxy in its scope’ – KIRKUS REVIEWS
Astrophysicist Reggie Straifer has discovered a mysterious object in deep space: a strange star, blinking in a seemingly impossible pattern. As humanity plans its first adventures beyond the solar system, Reggie and thousands of others join NOUMENON – a convoy of nine ships on a mission to reveal the origins of this anomalous star. Is its strobing a natural phenomenon or something far more alien?
NOUMENON’s voyage will take centuries. To preserve their talents, the convoy is populated by clones of its original crew. Born and reborn in a sealed society with a single purpose, every individual and every generation must come to terms with inheritances that go far beyond DNA.
Marina J. Lostetter’s stunning debut explores the wonders of deep space and the obsessions, fears and desires of humanity’s first interstellar travellers as they speed toward a single blinking star and a discovery beyond their wildest imaginings.

The plot is promising and I was looking forward to knowing more about the anomaly and its creators. However, that is hardly explored at all, and the book gets stuck on small personal issues, which I have a hard time caring about, since all characters die continously over the 2000+ years the mission is spanning. Same thing when the convoy returns to earth, so many exciting controversies and developments to explore, but we get stuck in Antarctica, covering yet another set of characters I dont really care about. In the end, I really dont know more than when I started.

Very nice scifi, as told through generations of space travelers, going to distant stars. Interesting and entertaining! Well worth a listen.

En trevlig bok vars handling sträcker sig över århundraden. Just det är delvis charmen, men gjorde också att jag inte kom särskilt nära karaktärerna. Det blev tyvärr ganska platt.

It's complicated both in science and in philosophy. An adventure that covers over 2000 years and spans generations. It's worth a listen as the voice acting is great (at some parts better than others). What it does lack is characters, there is a great lot of them, almost too many! The death count of main characters beats Game of Thrones by miles!! Haha!

this is a Sci fi epos with very little focus on the Sci and the fi - and l loved it for that reason. lf you are interested in human behaviour, what makes a person who they are in terms of genes vs upbringing and so on, then this book is for you.
