A collection of classic Holmes stories, truly enjoyable! Nicely read.

There are many versions of the stories about Sherlock Holmes. No Wonder! They are still as good as ever, and truly as important for the way we picture Victorian England as Dante's inferno for our way of picturing Hell. Hats off for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It takes a good actor to read the stories with the dramatic touch needed to make it alive without making it sound as a parody. Mr. Timson does it as well as it reasonably can be done. There are some other truly good versions, but these are my favourites. If you would like to try them in Swedish, I recommend those read by Thomas Löfdahl. But in the end... Holmes is one of the immortal parts of Old England which we Love and Cherish. The ring of Conan Doyle's brilliant way of telling the stories needs Her Majesty's Good English. And besides, where do we today find more elegant English, though almost modern in its efficiency and sparkling inspiration? This is easy listening, nectar for the English student. After a whole century of American abuse of the language, we need to allow our brains to get a good Oxfordian bath in the words of Arthur Conan Doyle. Let them be followed by G. K. Chesterton and then lock up well. This is English at its best. Basta!
