هذا الكتاب يسجل رحلة الأمير محمد علي - ابن توفيق باشا خديوي مصر- إلى بلاد البوسنة والهرسك ، وقد قام بهذه الرحلة عام 1900 حيث يقول عنها " وصل إليَّ من قبل أن بلاد البوسنة والهرسك قد أصابها قسط من الحضارة العصرية، وأن قد أنشئت فيها السكك الحديدية، وأقيمت في مدائنها الفنادق والمطاعم وغير ذلك مما يجد المسافر معه وسائل الراحة ووسائط الرفاغة ما ربما لم يجده في كثير من البلاد الشرقية، بَيْدَ أنها مع ذلك لا تزال ناقصة أمورًا كثيرة مما نشاهده في بلادنا وفي غيرها". وفي هذه الرحلة يتحدث عن الحياة الاجتماعية في تلك البلاد والعادات والتقاليد والتطور الحضاري، من هنا يعد هذا الكتاب وثيقة اجتماعية هامة لتك الحقبة من الزمان .
