لهذه المقالة أهمية تاريخية ظاهرة، فهي أولا جزء من التراث العربي ، وقبس من الثقافة اليونانية العربية التي بهرت الألباب في عصور ازدهار الحضارة الإسلامية. وهي أيضاً أول ما ألف ابن سينا في الخطابة، إذ تكوِّن قسما من "كتاب المجموع" أو "الحكمة العروضية" الذي كتبه ابن سينا وهو في الحادية والعشرين من عمره. فكل بحث يتجه صوب تحليل آراء ابن سينا ودراسة أفكاره وتطورها- وهو مبحث هام جداً- لا يمكن أن يغفل مثل هذا المقال الذي يعتبر على إيجازه مقدمة جيدة لدراسة الخطابة كما صنفها أرسطو وكما فسرها فلاسفة العرب.
