مؤلف هذا الكتاب هو أحمد بن إبراهيم الهاشمي (1878 - 1943 م) ، وهو أديب ومعلم مصري ، تلقى تعليمه في الأزهر الشريف على كبار شيوخ الأزهر في عصره، من أمثال الشيخ محمد عبده والشيخ سليم البشري والشيخ حمزة فتح الله ، وبالرغم من أن الهاشمي تلقى تعليمه في الأزهر وكانت صلته عميقة بين أساتذته ومدرسيه، إلا أنه اختار سلك التعليم المدني فدرس العربية في العديد من مدارس القاهرة، وأصبح مديراً بعد ذلك للعديد من المدارس . وهذا الكتاب يضم بين دفتيه ثلاثة أبواب: الباب الأول.. علم العروض ، والباب الثاني.. علم القافية ، والباب الثالث.. خواطر في فنون الشعر، مع تطبيقات وشواهد شعرية متعددة، وقد حاز هذا الكتاب على إعجاب أدباء عصر المؤلف وأساتذته الذين درس عليهم.
