اتّكأت الجدة على كتف نور حتى وصلت لفراشها، أجلستها فاردةً ساقيْها وفردت عليها غطاءها، استبدلت ملابسها بجلبابٍ طويلٍ لبني مقلم باللون الأزرق والأحمر، فكَّت جدائل ضفائرها، فردت جسدها على المرتبة المُلاصقة للجدار المقابل لسرير جدتها، تسللت أناملها وسحبت دفتر ذكرياتها من أسفل وسادتها، دوَّنت به: (طويت صفحات المريلة، والآن عليَّ الاستعداد لما هو قادم، أشعر بالحماسة ممزوجة بالخوف من المجهول).. أعادته مكانه، أمسكت بالجريدة، فتحته على المقال الأسبوعي لكاتبتها المفضلة، نظرت لأحرف اسمها المطبوع على الجانب الأيسر أسفل العنوان، همست بصوتٍ لا يسمعه سواها: "أربع سنوات وسيكون اسمي هنا بجوار اسمك".
