مقتطفات من كتاب وصايا الملوك وأبناء الملوك من ولد قحطان بن هود لدعبل الخزاعي، برواية حفيده علي بن محمد بن دعبل الخزاعي، استعين فيها بالنسخة المطبوعة التي حققها د. نزار أباظة ونشرتها دار صادر ببيروت ودار البشائر بدمشق، اعتمادا على صورة المخطوط المحفوظ في خزانة مخطوطات مجمع اللغة العربية بدمشق، وأصله محفوظ في مكتبة الأمبروزيانا في مدينة ميلان الإيطالية. وتكمن أهمية كتاب وصايا الملوك في أن دعبلا الخزاعي جمع فيه ما نقل عن الملوك وأبناء الملوك من ولد قحطان، من وصاياهم لبنيهم في شؤون الملك والحفاظ عليه، بادئا بموعظة هود عليه السلام لقومه ووصيته لهم، منتهيا بوصايا أواخر ملوكهم من الغساسنة في بلاد الشام. ولم تقتصر الوصايا على النثر بل تضمنت الشعر بشكل كبير، كما اشتمل الكتاب على بعض القصص والحوادث وقصائد الفخر المنسوبة إلى ملوك اليمن وجوانب من تاريخهم المتألق.
