De Zeeuwse Neeltje Lokerse deed begin 20ste eeuw iets revolutionairs: ze nam als dienstbode wraak op haar werkgever, de vader van haar bastaardkind. Midden op het Binnenhof schoot ze de man neer, met als doel aandacht te vragen voor het onrecht dat vrouwelijke dienstboden dagelijks overkwam. Neeltje werd een publieke heldin en werd zelfs vrijgesproken. Door haar toedoen werd de wet Loeff - waarin onderzoek naar vaderschap en alimentatie geregeld is - enkele jaren later gerealiseerd. Marlies Allewijn schreef een biografische roman over het aangrijpende leven van deze intrigerende, stoere vrouw.
