Kate Daniels works for the Order of the Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle—especially if they involve Atlanta’s shapeshifting community. When she’s called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar midway between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers there’s a new player in town. One who’s been around for thousands of years—and rode to war at the side of Kate’s father. This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, to handle. Because this time, Kate will be taking on family... This dramatized audiobook also includes 3 short stories: Naked Dinner, Conclave and Awake. Performed by Nora Sofyan, Michael Glenn, Stephanie Németh-Parker, Emlyn McFarland, Christopher Walker, KenYatta Rogers, Dawn Ursula, Ken Jackson, Robb Moreira, Chris Davenport, Nazia Chaudhry, Rose Elizabeth Supan, Mort Shelby, Nick DePinto, James Konicek, Matthew Schleigh, Yasmin Tuazon, Joe Mallon, Wayne LeGette, Sarah Ruth Thomas, Alejandro Ruiz, Karen Novack, Sara Greenfield, Elena Anderson, Ryan Carlo Dalusung, T. I know this is a reread or, in this case, listen. But it's the first time I've listened through a dramatised adaptation. To be fair, it adds a little more, just at points where you couldn't quite get your brain to see that far. But the story itself is so well built, and the characters are so strong that it just makes a great book better. In this book, Kate learns the cost of opening up and loving. But she also learns it can inspire the best in people. Curran finally gets it right after miscommunication makes him and Kate look like a fantasy instead of possibility. There is sadness, unexpected when some of the characters lost where in the series like twice, but that's the mark of a good series, even they dug into my book heart. There's thrill and action. Oh, and some spicy spicy fun... but like once with mid smut detail. The characters have depth and grab at your imagination so fast that you fall into the story easily. You get Currans POV, and he's hilarious. I can see the cat in him.
