Het bizarre levensverhaal van een wielrenner De profcarrière van Rini Wagtmans was kort maar hevig. Hij won drie Touretappes en droeg in 1971 de gele trui. Op negentienjarige leeftijd kreeg hij ongewild de leiding over het bedrijf van zijn schoonvader toen die onverwachts overleed. Amper een grote belastingschuld overwonnen, werd hij door hartproblemen gedwongen te stoppen met wielrennen. Wagtmans werd succesvol ploegleider, bondscoach, handelsman, politicus en organisator. Desondanks heeft hij altijd het gevoel gehad zich tegenover zijn veelbewogen verleden te moeten bewijzen.
