Na vijftien jaar stilte maakte Helga Ruebsamen in 1988 een comeback met de verhalenbundel 'Op Scheveningen'. In veel van haar verhalen gaat de voorkeur uit naar personages met een, op zijn zachtst gezegd, non-conformistische levensstijl, zoals Koos en zijn moeder Cootje in hun Scheveningse volksbuurt. Met evenveel plezier beschrijft Ruebsamen in ‘De meisjes uit Marlot’ de zusjes Cateau en Emilie uit de gegoede burgerij, die feestend en drinkend hun ondergang tegemoet gaan.
