Rom

Auf den ersten Blick scheint Rom in der Bibel nur eine untergeordnete Rolle zu spielen. Lediglich wenige Verse berichten vom Aufenthalt des Paulus in der Stadt, und doch lässt Lukas seine Apostelgeschichte ganz bewusst dort, im Zentrum der antiken Welt, enden. Und sehr bald entsteht in der "Ewigen Stadt" eine Erinnerungslandschaft, die in unterschiedlichster Form auf die biblischen Gestalten Petrus und Paulus Bezug nimmt. Dieser Biblische Reiseführer beschreibt aber nicht nur das Rom der Apostel, d.h. die wenigen Orte, die direkt oder indirekt mit dem Aufenthalt und Martyrium von Petrus und Paulus verbunden sind. Auch die Katakomben und Kirchen der ersten Christen sowie die wichtigsten Orte, die die Päpste auf dem Fundament des antiken Rom errichtet haben, werden vorgestellt und erschlossen. So entsteht ein Gesamtbild der Stadt und ihrer Geschichte, die ohne die christliche Umformung der Antike und ihre biblischen Bezüge nicht verständlich ist. Exkurse behandeln zudem u.a. das Petrusamt und Luthers Romaufenthalt.

[Rome] At first glance Rome seems to play a subordinate role in the bible. Only a few verses tell of the stay of Paul in the city, but yet Luke very consciously lets his Act of the Apostles end there, in the centre of the ancient world. Soon a commemorative landscape is created in the "Eternal City", referring to the biblical figures Peter and Paul in various ways. This biblical travel guide however does not only describe the Rome of the Apostles, those few places that are directly or indirectly linked to the stay and martyrdom of Peter and Paul. Also the catacombs and churches of the first Christians as well as the most important places, that have been erected by the popes on the foundation of ancient Rome, are presented in detail. In this way an overall picture is created of a city and its history, that is not comprehensive without the transformation of the antiquity and their biblical references. Furthermore, excursuses examine the papacy and Luther's stay in Rome.
