"Werneuchen ist eine ¿offene Stadt¿ ohne Mauern und Tore, gleichsam den Straßen ausgeliefert und dem, was sie bringen und wegführen", schrieb 1997 der Pfarrer zu Werneuchen in der Festschrift zur 750-Jahrfeier, und meinte damit auch die Menschen, die gingen und kamen. Der bekannteste wohl ist ¿Schmidt von Werneuchen¿, ein auch von Fontane beachteter Literat, Pfarrer ab 1796 an der evangelischen Kirche der Stadt.
