De botter is een scheepstype dat vroeger gebruikt werd voor de visserij. De geringe diepte van de Zuiderzee leidde tot de ontwikkeling van deze platbodem. Op het hoogtepunt van de Zuiderzeevisserij, rond 1900, werd er met zo'n 1400 schepen gevist. Het meest bekende en succesvolle schip voor de visserij op de Zuiderzee was de botter.
