كتاب مشهور، يعتبر أهم الأعمال التي ألحقت بكتاب أبي سعيد السكري. طبع لأول مرة في بغداد سنة 1962م بتحقيق طائفة من المحققين. أكمل فيه ابن جني صنيع أبي سعيد السكري في عمله الضخم الذي جمع فيه رواياته لشعر الهذليين، ويتضح من المخطوطات الكثيرة التي وصلت إلينا حول شعر الهذيليين، أن السكري قد قام بجهد كبير في جمع الروايات التي صنعت ديوانهم. وتتميماً لأعمال السكري كتب ابن جني كتابه (التمام في تفسير أشعار هذيل مما أغفله أبو سعيد السكري) وأتى فيه على شرح أبيات لزهاء خمسين شاعراً من شعراء هذيل، وافتتح الكتاب بشعر قيس بن العيزارة، وختمه بفصل طويل، هو أطول فصول الكتاب، في شرح غريب شعر أبي صخر الهذلي. وتكلم في الكتاب أيضاً على قطعتين لحسان بن ثابت وعباس بن مرداس. والمعروف أن ديوان الهذليين هو أكبر ديوان قبيلة وصلن
