فن المسرح لم ينشأ في عالمنا العربي الحديث نتيجةً لتطوير أي فن قديم في بلادنا، أو فن شعبي كخيال الظل والقراقوز، وإنما جلبه إلينا مارون نقاش الذي وُلد في مدينة صيدا اللبنانية سنة 1817م، وتُوفي مارون عزبًا في مدينة طرسوس السورية سنة 1855م، وله من العمر ثمان وثلاثون سنة، وقد حدد مارون الصورة التي اتخذها فن المسرح في العالم العربي الحديث، وظل يسير عليها في الغالب الأعم عشرات السنين في كل من لبنان وسوريا ومصر، ونعني بها صورة المسرح الغنائي، ولكن هل باستطاعتنا رغم كل هذه الحقائق أن نزعم أن مارون نقاش قد أنشأ الأدب التمثيلي في لغتنا العربية على نحوٍ ما أنشأ فن المسرح؟
