وقد بحث العلماء الناسخ والمنسوخ ضمن أبحاث علوم القرآن الكريم، وأفرده بعضهم بالكتابة. والنسخ هو رفع الحكم الشرعي، بخطاب شرعي. وعلى هذا فلا يكون النسخ بالعقل والاجتهاد. ومجال النسخ هو الأوامر والنواهي الشرعية فحسب، أما الاعتقادات والأخلاق وأصول العبادات والأخبار الصريحة التي ليس فيها معنى الأمر والنهي، فلا يدخلها النسخ بحال. ولمعرفة الناسخ والمنسوخ أهمية كبيرة عند أهل العلم، إذ بمعرفته تُعرف الأحكام، ويعرف ما بقي حكمه وما نُسخ.
