"المشكلة الطبية الرئيسة في معالجة ذهان الهوس الاكتئابي ليست عدم وجود أدوية فعالة، ولكن هي أن المرضى يرفضون أخذها، والأسوأ من ذلك هو أنّه نظرًا لقلة المعلومات ورداءة الاستشارة الطبية، والخوف من العار والرهبة من العواقب على المستوى الشخصي والمهني، لا يقوم أكثر المرضى بالبحث عن علاج على الإطلاق. الهوس الاكتئابي يشوّه الأمزجة والأفكار ويحرض على تصرفات غير مسؤولة، ورغم أن منشأه بيولوجي، يشعر الشخص أن سببه سيكولوجي، إنّه مرضٌ فريد لأنّه يمنح ميزة وسرورًا ومع ذلك يجلب معاناة لا يمكن تحملها، قد تؤدي إلى الانتحار في كثير من الحالات، لذا قررت أن أحكي عن تجربتي معه."
