ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK

In Ann Patchett's novel, "Bel Canto," a lavish birthday party for a Japanese businessman, Mr. Hosokawa, at the Vice President's home in an unnamed South American country is disrupted by a band of terrorists hoping to capture the President.
