#1 Your career is a major part of your life. You spend a lot of time at your workplace, and it can seem like a second home. You care about your career, and it provides you with a sense of accomplishment.

#2 When looking for a new job, it can become a full-time job in and of itself. You must prioritize the few tasks that will have the greatest impact. Use the 80/20 rule to decide how to best allocate your time and attention.

#3 The Pareto principle states that you should focus on the 20 percent of positions that are suited to you, and ignore the rest. By focusing on the 20 percent of positions that are suited to you, your background and skills will outshine other candidates.

#4 It is unwise to connect with everyone because doing so is usually a waste of valuable time. Focus on the 20 percent of individuals who can help you, and spend only 20 percent of your time talking about yourself.
