महात्मनां भूमिः एषा

अमेरिकीयः धर्मगुरुः रेवरेण्ड् आवरः, पुणेनगरपरिसरे स्थितान् निर्धननिरक्षरान् क्रिस्तमतीयान् अकरोत् ।अनेन हिन्दुधर्मग्रन्थानाम् अध्ययनम् अकृत्वा, वास्तवं स्वरूपम् अनवगत्य सर्वदा हिन्दुधर्मस्य निन्दा कृता । कश्चन पण्डितः वदति यत् - 'आदौ वास्तवस्वरूपम् अवगन्तुं प्रयासः स्यात्, ततः एव अवगुणाः प्रकाशनीयाः' इति । ततः सः हिन्दुधर्मस्य अध्ययनं कृत्वा संस्कृतं मराठीं च अधीत्य बहून् ग्रन्थान् आङ्ग्लभाषया अनूदितवान् । अपि च तदीयां सम्पत्तिः पुणेनगरस्थाय 'भारतीयेतिहाससंशोधनमण्डलाय' अर्पितवान् । (“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”) The American religious leader Reverend Auer, in Pune, helped the poor and illiterate and used to convert them to Christianity. He consistently criticized Hinduism, even without reading the Hindu scriptures, and without understanding their true nature. Therefore, after studying Hinduism, he learned Sanskrit and Marathi and translated many texts into English. Also, he donated his wealth to the Indian History Research Association located in Pune.
