April, 1883. A terrified young woman named Helen Stoner arrives at 221B Baker Street seeking Sherlock Holmes's help. Two years prior, her twin sister died under mysterious circumstances at Stoke Moran, their family's decaying manor house, her final words an enigmatic warning about a "speckled band." Chillingly, in the days before her death, she'd begun hearing an eerie whistle in the dead of night. Now living in her dead sister's room due to house repairs, Helen has started to hear that same whistle — and fears she may be next.

The Adventure of the Speckled Band: Part One

Shortly after Helen Stoner leaves Baker Street, Holmes and Watson are confronted by her furious stepfather, Dr. Roylott. Roylott warns Holmes not to meddle in his affairs but the great detective is undeterred by the doctor’s threats. Determined to solve the enigma of the speckled band before Helen meets the same fate as her sister, he and Watson head to Stoke Moran where they discover a series of enigmatic clues, each more confounding than the last.

The Adventure of the Speckled Band: Part Three

When country squire Hilton Cubitt arrives at Baker Street with a collection of childish stick figure drawings, Holmes faces one of his most cryptic cases yet. The crude sketches keep appearing around Cubitt's Norfolk estate, filling his American wife Elsie with inexplicable terror. As Holmes works to decode these "dancing men" figures, he realises they contain an ominous message connected to Elsie's mysterious past. Realising the Cubitts’ lives are in mortal danger, Holmes and Watson are faced with a race against time.

Arriving at Riding Thorpe Manor, Holmes and Watson are devastated to learn that they’re too late. Hilton Cubitt is dead and his wife, Elsie, is gravely wounded. While local police suspect an attempted murder-suicide, Holmes's investigation reveals a more sinister truth. When a flame-haired pawnbroker named Jabez Wilson seeks Sherlock Holmes's help, the great detective finds himself drawn into one of his most peculiar cases yet. Wilson tells an extraordinary tale: for two months, he was paid handsomely to copy the Encyclopedia Britannica as part of a mysterious organisation called "The Red-Headed League”. But Holmes suspects there's more to this bizarre scheme than meets the eye. With his suspicions aroused by Wilson's unusually accommodating young assistant, Holmes begins to unravel what may be an elaborate criminal conspiracy.
