Word and say narcissists use all kinds of manipulative tactics to pull power and control over you. It's important to understand your vulnerabilities so that you don't give them opportunities to get insights into your psyche and steal your sense of power and control over yourself. Manipulative tactics can involve overt manipulation as an example, giving you something in exchange for you doing something for them.

This works only when they know that you are vulnerable and needy of that something or coworker tactics which breaks Apple may involve acting as if they are a victim and playing on your soft heart so that they can borrow money or pick your brain or have you wipe away their tears and do other things to make them feel better, usually at your expense.
