Just because there isn’t money or children involved doesn’t mean that a friendship is any easier of a relationship. In an episode devoted to friend relationships, two callers are under constant fear that they’ll suddenly lose their friends. The first caller wants to reconnect with a friend who already cut her out of their life once before, which Iyanla fears will only happen again. The next caller develops personal attachments to the clients she works with, and then feels like she loses a friend once the client moves on. Iyanla identifies a major issue for both of them: They are repeating their bonding patterns over and over.

Self-Diagnosis is Misdiagnosis

Iyanla often says that if you are emotionally untrusting, you will attract emotionally untrust-worthy people, and that couldn’t be more true for both of her callers today. The first caller is dating a married man and is unsure if she should end the relationship, but Iyanla doesn’t buy the lie. Then, after constantly being friend-zoned, another woman realizes that she is constantly pushing to find “the one,” all while being emotionally guarded. When love is difficult, Iyanla reminds both callers that if they want to know the end, look at how the relationship began – either in a lie, or out of desperation.

Growing Lady Balls

Iyanla’s caller this week is dealing with two major issues: An absentee partner and family members who are recently estranged. The caller recently lost her mother and during the months before the end, she went to take care of her. She now feels disconnected from the rest of her family, and in the meantime, her partner stayed at their home and never visited or supported her.
