Memoir Nation: Weekly Inspiration for Writers is an extension of the Memoir Nation community hosted by Brooke Warner and Grant Faulkner, two friends and colleagues who bring a community-minded sensibility to the writing journey. Originally launched as Write-minded in 2018, this is a weekly writing podcast that focuses on memoir and personal writing, as well as industry trends and tips and resources for writers and authors. 
Memoir Nation features a segment called Substackin’ at the end of each episode to talk about topics, ideas, trends, and writerly inspirations that Brooke and Grant are tracking in their weekly Substacks (Writerly Things and Intimations). Write-minded: Weekly Inspiration for Writers

Whether you love genre fiction already, or wonder why you never pick it up, this episode is an informative and eye-opening delve into crime fiction (and other genre fiction generally). We talk about the “genre wars” (what is that?) and also hear from Tracy about her amazingly disciplined approach to getting the job done. Tracy talks about her process, her mentors, and how she learned to write crime, and she leaves listeners with some inspiring words of encouragement for their own writing.

“Whodunnits” and Other Genre Fiction We Love, featuring Tracy Clark

Oh, the challenge to be funny on the page. This week we’re focusing on how to step into the point of view of another character in memoir. Increasingly memoirists are wanting to take risks with memoir, to fill holes in their knowledge but not be relegated to writing fiction. Guest Julie Metz provides a beautiful template for how to do this with her new memoir, Eva and Eve, which reconstructs her family’s 1940 escape from Vienna when Hitler was annexing Austria and ridding it of its Jewish population. Beyond a harrowing and beautifully rendered tale of family, Eva and Eve is a story of how history repeats itself and the legacies we carry.
