The Western world is in a downward spiral. Symptoms include worsening economies, increasing crime, and general crumbling of society's moral and civil framework. Hope is decreasing while anxiety is increasing. Throughout the ages mankind's lot has ebbed and flowed in concert with its understanding of, and obedience to, God's will. The ascendancy of Western civilization and our modern world coincided with the spread of Calvinism. It is the worldview from which today's material and experiential blessings were birthed and gave rise to ideas of democratic, representative government and equality of every person before God. This book, after establishing some distinguishing characteristics of Calvinism, traces its advance throughout Europe and subsequently to America through personalities and events giving rise to our modern world and all its prosperity. By doing so it provides an encouraging reminder of how God turns the fortunes of faithful men and nations for the better--even ours, even today.
