Janis Joplin, born on January 19, 1943, in Port Arthur, Texas, was a pioneering rock and blues singer known for her powerful voice and emotional intensity. She first gained attention as the lead vocalist of Big Brother and the Holding Company, with hits like "Piece of My Heart." Her solo career, highlighted by the critically acclaimed album Pearl, cemented her status as a rock icon.
