#1 The psalm David is referring to is Psalm 23, which is about how we are all created to be led. If God is not leading you, it means you are being led by someone else. If you think you are leading your life, calling the shots, then congratulations, you are your own shepherd.

#2 The battle for your thoughts requires time, attention, and deliberation. You must become a better listener in order to recognize God’s voice. As Jesus said, the shepherd calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

#3 The psalm is a song and poem, so comparing translations can be helpful. Some images and descriptions may not seem to work together until you look at the psalm from different linguistic angles.

#4 The Good Shepherd is with us through every difficulty, and we don’t need to fear any evil because he is with us.
